Boring Blog Stats: The End?
December 13, 2010 5 Comments
A rare thing happened today: somebody left a comment on one of my posts. It was written in response to A Tale of Two Posts, in which I discussed how self-referential my blogging was\is. This naturally led me to contemplate how long it had been since I last completed the tedious task of “Boring Blog Stats”. So, here I am.
With my current level of blog neglect, you won’t be surprised to hear that the number of hits have fallen off somewhat. The combined hits for both blogs were 1032 in October and 675 in November. Quite depressing, even though I had put no effort in whatsoever.
Anyway, the green shoots of recovery are starting to push through the compost of my creative drought (so to speak), and this whole business has got me to thinking about how I might move forward. I’ve far too often ended up writing posts about writing my blogs and how many hits I’ve been getting. Although there is some value in this for me personally, I am, and always have been, aware that it’s not exactly very exciting for anybody else. It’s time I stopped.
This, of course, means that I’m going to have to think of something else to write about. That’s easier said than done. In the past I’ve written reviews of comedy gigs and television and that kind of stuff. I wasn’t very good at it. I’m a bit rubbish at having opinions on ‘art’, because, you know, everybody’s opinions are valid and who am I to say that something is rubbish, especially if they’ve clearly worked so hard at it. It just feels mean.
I’m sure I’ll think of something. In the mean time, you’ve got my permission to give me a cyber-slap should I publish anything of the “oh, I can’t think of anything to write, so I’m going to write about having nothing to write about, in the hopes of tricking you into thinking that I am actually writing about something” variety.
Unless I’ve had loads and loads of hits. Then I’m allowed to tell you about it.

LoOoL, self-referential again

I am writing a post about self-referentials, will publish it tomorrow
Have a nice day
I think I’m just about allowed to be self-referential under my new rules.. but it’s a fine line that I’m bound to inadvertently cross.
I look forward to your S-R post! make sure you post a link to it in these comments.
Here it is :

Ah, I had a read of your post earlier, but didn’t have chance to leave a comment! It’s a very in-depth look at the world of self-referentialism, but you really needed many more self-references! Just throw as many random ones in as you can!!
