Ten Predictions for 2010

Here are my predictions for the forthcoming year:

1.  I’ll continue to stress about taking a day off from blogging and keep promising myself that I’ll do it, and then chicken out at the last minute.  Then I’ll just do it for some spurious reason.

2.  I’ll say that I’m going to go sim-only and keep my existing iPhone when my contract expires.  Then once it has expired, I’ll immediately buy an iPhone 3GS.

3.  I’ll want to buy a macbook, but won’t.

4.  The X Factor will be the worst series ever, but I’ll start blogging about it and see it through to the end.

5.  Someone will get murdered in the final series of Big Brother.  Of course, it will be a hoax, but Channel 4 will still get reprimanded for mental cruelty.

6.  I’ll have a burning desire to buy a PS3, then I’ll buy one and never use it.

7.  Liverpool will finish fourth in the league but then get knocked out of the Champion’s League in the preliminary round.  I had to temper my optimism with some pessimism.

8.  Liverpool will get a new owner, and they’ll prove to be worse than the current ones.

9.  I’ll go to a comedy gig that I really didn’t enjoy but I’ll still write a vaguely positive review.

10.  The Gravy Boat will win an award.  It will probably be one that was invented by me.

I’ve got the same problem with my iPhone 3G contract… do I go SIM-only in January and wait for the new iPhone, or do I just get the 3GS? Or do I go BlackBerry?!

It’s a real conundrum. I’ve got a feeling that my battery is going to die before my contract is up in March and so it will be something of a moot point.

If it doesn’t die, then I could try selling it and get a decent price for a fully working model, and put the proceeds towards a new one.

The only thing putting me off is the thought of getting another expensive 18-month contract just for the privilege of using an iPhone – and that comes from someone who is completely obsessed with it. I’m semi-tempted to get a IPod Touch and a really cheap and nasty phone with cheap contract. I don’t know if I could live without the 3G coverage though.

I’m clearly no closer to making a decision.

I hadn’t thought about getting a cheap and nasty phone and an iPod Touch… hmm… what to do. My battery still seems okay, and I charge it every night anyway, but still it’s one to ponder. I use 3G a fair bit… dammit Apple why must they release a new phone once each year when people are on 18-month contracts?!

That said I don’t think I’d miss 3G. I only use it to faff on Facebook, Twitter and the Huffington Post websites when I’m to and from work, and I use the Train Search.

I think I’ll switch to SIM-only next month and see what happens over the year.

When I finished my last comment about the iPod Touch I immediately realised that I would then lose out on my permanent connection to e-mail and full web browsing, which I’ve come to rely on quite a lot. I’d possibly think about getting a blackberry if I could get a cheap enough contract and have an iPod Touch too.

I use the WordPress app on the 3G pretty much daily, but I’d probably be able to replicate most of my other ‘essential’ apps on a blackberry.

I’ve got the WordPress app but I’ve never used it. Maybe I should start, given that I’ve just started a new blog and whatnot.

I couldn’t live without email on my phone, which is why I’m tempted by a BlackBerry. The iPhone does email just fine for me as I’m a Gmail user, but other than for that I’ve heard it’s not a patch on the BlackBerry when it comes to email.

The WordPress app is pretty handy – as long as you’re not writing anything too long. I mainly use it for my http://www.sherby57.co.uk posts.

I used to have a Blackberry before my iPhone, using Yahoo Mail. The big advantage that the iPhone has is that it allows me to see all my sub-folders where I’ve sorted my mail. The Blackberry just used to show Inbox, sent items and deleted items.
