Horror Meat

A Breast of Lamb

People of a nervous disposition should avert their eyes now.

I was having a lovely look around my local ‘The Asdas’ store yesterday, when I happened to glance upon the most horrendous of food stuffs – Rolled Boneless Lamb Breast.  It is the most hideous cut of meat known to butchery, although it may be misleading to use the word meat, when it is actually just a roll of fat.

Breasts of Lamb

A gang of lamb breasts, looking menacing.

Given that it looks like something out of a horror movie, what sort of sicko would eat such a thing?  What sort of recipe would they use to conceal the fact that they’re eating a big slab of fat for tea?  How are they able to eat it and not instantly die of heart disease?

Answers on a postcard, please.  Or in the comments section, if it’s more convenient.

Is breast an actual cut of meat?

Well, it’s perfectly acceptable to have a chicken breast so I assume that it is really a cut. I don’t know if the concept really works on a lamb though.

One of my mates, incredibly, actually likes breast of lamb. His preferred recipe is to stick it in to the oven, until cremated, and then eat it on its own. I don’t think I could bring myself to touch one, let alone eat it.

A breast of lamb is not something I have heard of before and it kind of gives me the creeps…a lamb with breasts…do lambs have breasts?

It’s all very confusing – I thought with meats it was all: loins, ribs, shanks, fillets. With poultry it’s all: breasts, wings, legs… I know nothing about butchery, but there is something vaguely unsettling about a lamb breast.

I think the lamb breast is the part that they suckle their young with – which is definitely creepy.

You’re certainly a more qualified butcher than me though, I didn’t even make the meat/poultry distinction.

Incredibly, I searched WordPress for ‘breast of lamb’ and someone has made it look quite appetizing: http://wheatlessbay.wordpress.com/2008/10/20/french-stuffed-breast-of-lamb/

I’m still not sure I’d want to eat it though.

Good for you Steve for staying clear of Lamb breast! That chunk of lamb breast doesn’t look edible.

It certainly looks inedible. If my plane were to crash in the Andes I’d certainly eat my fellow passengers before I tackled a breast of lamb.

Somebody must eat it though, unless there is some kind of alternative use for them.

Ha ha ha :D a real survivor you are!
alternative use? yeah right, if you want to kill someone that is.

Watch out for Steve supermarket managers, here he comes with his hidden cameras when you least expected !!!

I’m like a one-man, blogging Watchdog. Although, to be fair to Asda, they have in no way attempted to hide the horror of what they are selling! I think it will take some doing to find a worse food product, but I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
