Lyon 1 Liverpool 1

Another must-win game for Liverpool; another not won game by Liverpool. On the plus side – it wasn’t a loss – on the negative side – a draw does balls all to help our chances of qualification.
Luckily I didn’t see any of it as I went out to see Stephen K. Amos tonight (yes, he was very funny, thanks). It’s a rare thing for me to miss a televised Liverpool match, but this came along just at the right time. Somebody up there must like me.
You may wonder why I’m commenting on a match that I’ve not seen, and I’m kind of wondering that myself. I have an almost OCD compulsion to post after every match. Don’t judge me.
If I was a proper blogger I’d try and do some kind of in depth analysis of where things have gone wrong for the Reds. I’m not a proper blogger though and it’s too depressing for me to actually contemplate. I’m not a fucking Vulcan, so don’t hassle me, man.
Perhaps it’s all just some kind of masterplan by Rafa to lull all of world football in to a false sense of security before Voronin whips off his pony tail and reveals himself as Torres’ twin brother. Fingers crossed.

Liverpool were a bit unfortunate to lose – they played positive football. ‘Pool’s defence was rock solid all night, with Agger (sp?) being the pick of the bunch – so the equaliser was a bit of a shock.
Benayoun had a great match…Voronin had a stinker. I think Liverpool are too much of a step up for him. Torres was marked out of the game.
Shame.
I guess under the circumstances, with all the injuries, then a draw wasn’t a bad result – especially if the performance was decent. It just seems to be purely about results at the moment – it kind of takes any joy out of being a football fan.
I am no master of football tactics, but I thought that Kuyt was playing a touch deep. But aside from that, Liverpool played really well. They looked like a side that had each other’s backs, so you guess dressing room moral is high. Jamie Carragher was interviewed afterwards and gave rousing support for Benitez.
But Torres needed a partner up front; he ran Lyon’s defence ragged. Voronin just isn’t quick enough, smart enough or big enough to be that partner. I think if Babel started if would have been a different result.
