Boring Blog Stats – September 2009
October 2, 2009 Leave a comment
It’s that time of the month again where I bore you with how many hits my blogs have been getting. Don’t worry, I can hear you sighing from here, so I’ll keep it as brief as I can.
In August the overall numbers were:
The World of Sherby57 – Total hits = 750, Average hits per day = 24.2
Pour Some Gravy On Me – Total hits = 468, Average hits per day =15.1
In September they were:
Sherby57 – Total hits = 781, Average hits per day = 26.0
PSGOM – Total hits = 880, Average hits per day = 29.3
Incredibly, the hits almost doubled on PSGOM, and have increased six times since July. It’s also the first month that it has beaten Sherby57, which gives me mixed feelings. It’s a bit like when your first child is overshadowed by the achievements of a younger sibling; you’re proud of what they’ve done, but you can’t go around bragging about it.
I’m actually quite impressed that Sherby57 managed to maintain its level; as I’ve said before, it’s not easy to get hits on a blog about nothing.
Top Posts for the Month
Sherby57 -
Genetic Engineering – Has It Gone Too Far? – 155 hits
Geordie Jokes – 49 hits
Sexy Lamb – 31 hits
PSGOM -
Sex Sells: The Mr Banana Penis Story – 62 hits
Tim Minchin @ Parr Hall – 42 hits
True Blood Survivors Group – 37 hits
It’s no surprise that the posts featuring Mr Banana Penis were the top hitters for both blogs. As the title of the post aptly says, ‘Sex Sells’. Geordie Jokes makes something of a surprise appearance (well it’s a surprise to me), as does Sexy Lamb, from 2007, which is a photo of one of my cats when she was a kitten. Not sure why September is a popular month for people looking for sexy lambs.
The other popular posts on PSGOM go to show the benefit of blogging about things that have large, fanatical fan bases. My Tim Minchin review even had a link posted to it on a Minchin forum: http://angry-feet.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=1315&start=15. The True Blood post was published less than a week ago and was done in about 5 minutes as a bit of a joke, so, following the results, you can expect to see a proper True Blood post very soon. And, please let me know if you can think of anything\anyone else, that has a rabid set of fans, that I can opportunistically blog about.

It vaguely intrigues me that the PSGOM top 3 features relatively new posts, while the Sherby57 top features really old posts. I think I’ll set myself a challenge to get a new post to break in to that exclusive club; stay tuned for details. It’s going to be difficult to do it and maintain that inimitable Sherby-style.
My overall challenge for October is to maintain the same level of hits, and I must admit that I’m already slightly pessimistic about my chances. If I was in a more optimistic frame of mind, I would be pushing myself to try and break the 1000 hits barrier for PSGOM and on Sherby57 learn how to write nonsensical flights of fancy that are also about things that people want to read about. Sadly, I currently have no ideas on how I would go about achieving either of those. So, I probably won’t be able to do either.
