Haha, well that was a good guess! Then again, the only other way you could own 1400 books is if you were a millionaire and lived in a mansion lol.

I can't get my head around so many books!!

My reading hiatus wasn't planned. I just sort of lost the urge and couldn't read! It was a very, very strange feeling! I'm not an obsessive reader, but I've always had a book on the go for as long as I can remember, so not wanting to read was such a weird thing. And yes, it does take a LONG time to warm up again - I'm still not there!!

Why, yes I do... I thought running a bookshop would make me LESS of a book hoarder, since there are so many there for the borrowing every day (like having my own lending library!), but instead I find myself snatching up anything that sounds interesting before it flies off the shelves. That's the problem, see - the newest, shiniest, most delectable books are always the first to go so you have to get in early!

I don't think I could manage an actual reading hiatus - I'd go mad - but I definitely go through spells where watching DVD box sets/playing on the internet/sleeping all seem somehow easier than picking up a book. It's amazing how long it takes you to warm up again afterwards though, isn't it?

Sorry, for a moment I thought you said you had 1400 books in your TBR pile.....errm you did say that! I can only assume that you own a book shop!

It's good to know I'm not the only one with weird reading habits. I did have a bit of a reading hiatus for about a year, and that's why I haven't reviewed any books for ages. I started reading again, but I'm not up to full speed yet. It's hard to find the time when you're addicted to an iPad!

A kindred spirit! Your reading habits sound so much like mine, it's spooky, even down to the 'adding everything to the wishlist then combing through it later to weed out the impulsive additions' thing. I'm not quite as good at shelving things properly so I can read the oldest books first, but I kinda know which ones have been around too long and make a point of choosing something from way back when instead of the latest book to drop through the letterbox (I have a terrible Amazon ordering addiction - I blame it on the Uni Years, when getting post was the highlight of the week). I now run a second-hand bookshop in a little town that also has three easily-accessible charity shops, so as you can imagine, the 'grabbing the books I want before they disappear' quota is enormous. At last count my TBR pile was something around *cough*1400*cough* books. I think I've gone from 'a bit sick' to 'completely irredeemable'! ;)

Leave a Comment It’s time for an extremely belated edition of Reading Habits, in fact it’s so belated that it’s in entirely the wrong month. This kind of reflects my current apathy toward reading, which I hope it very temporary. Anyway, I just hope I can remember something about the bloody books from back in December. As always, my ‘to be read’ pile of books are kept in chronological order, and I alternately read the book I’ve had longest (marked B.H.L.), followed by a free choice (F.C.). For a full description of my insane book selection rules, please click here.
Liked Howard's art for JLA and also love Mike Mignola - all that stuff. Also, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is some of the best art I've seen in comics...
Anyway, must dash!

Did it not drive you crazy to buy something that you hated??

My favourite Batman book is Frank Miller's Year One - David Mazzucchelli's artwork is fantastic. I could look at it all day.

Who was the artist that you like on Justice League?

I think I've read nearly all of them - bar the recent ones, mainly because I just don't have the time.

I was also a comic nut for a while - Batman mostly (the thinking mans comic hero) and also Spiderman, not sure why, I just kind of liked it. In contrast to you I bought mainly for the art and collected a few just because they were beautifully rendered. Hence why I bought Justice League for a while and 2000AD. I hated 2000AD but loved the artwork!

I am rather glad that it's not just me that's weird.

I've still only read the one Brookmyre book - the rubber ducks one - and I own one more. Because I insist that I read the in order, there's a good chance that it will never get on to my 'official' to be read pile.
